One Square,
8 Assassinations
Documentary Performance
2021
Tehran, Iran
BRIEF
Street performance with a multidisciplinary approach based on the true events that happened in one square in Tehran, Iran. Baharestan Square is one of the most historic locations in the city, which has witnessed eight assassinations and tremendous violence before the Islamic Revolution. The audience would walk around the square in groups of 4-5 people, and at each turn they would experience one of the deaths. The main concept of this performance was to create a new relationship between the audience and a well-known part of the city.
This was a multi-location performance. The first location was at Rooberoo Hostel Venue where they would receive the instructions and the materials they needed on their phones.
The second location was around Baharestan Square. We put QR codes on the public traffic signs and benches around the square, and each of them would lead the audience to one era and the violence that happened in the same exact spot. We used different mediums such as voice recordings, virtual reality and a narration they would hear through their headphones.
